One year ago this month, Gateway Pet Guardians became the Rescue Bank ambassador for the St. Louis region. Since July 2020, we have accepted 30 trucks from Rescue Bank thanks to the gracious support of donors including PetSmart, Chewy, Royal Canin, Purina, Smuckers, and Hartz Mountain. We have accepted and distributed approximately 162 tons of dog food, 106 tons of cat food, and 54 tons of litter, in addition to shelter essential pet supplies. In total, 646,064 pounds of food and litter have been distributed across the St. Louis region serving over 50 different nonprofit animal welfare groups.
This wouldn’t have been possible without the incredible warehouse team who receives trucks, moves product, and helps distribute to recipients. And the team of volunteers that help monthly at distribution, driving the forklift, hand-loading food and litter into vehicles, and assisting visitors. It’s not glamorous work–it’s sweaty, hot, back-breaking work–but they always have a smile on their faces.
I’m proud to be a part of such a special movement supporting nonprofits in the trenches–rescues, shelters, pet food pantries, feral cat feeders, you name it.
Happy anniversary, team!
