The Instructional Design Team in the School of Adult & Online Education at Maryville University presented this morning at the 2016 Focus on Teaching and Technology Conference. The presentation was titled “Harness Your Superpowers: Developing Digital Learning Experiences,” and demonstrated the use of an LMS to deliver effective individualized instruction to learners. It emphasized the application of sound instructional decision making and user-friendly design to can turn digital content delivery and assessment into a rich interactive learning experience. Presenters included Janet Roberts, Melissa Childers, Tom James, and Shanna Seyer.
In “Harness Your Superpowers,” we demonstrated the potential of asynchronous digital instruction beyond the traditional read/watch and assess approach. When you start to think beyond the limitations of what you believe is possible within your LMS, and apply instructional methods to the digital environment, you provide learners with a much more robust experience. We shared examples of how our online faculty developers have partnered with our instructional design team to leverage the flexibility of the LMS to create powerful learning and assessment tools. We also expanded on how these same instructional strategies may be used to deliver differentiated learning within the traditional classroom as well.
