This afternoon, I co-presented a presentation titled “Incorporating Video Stories from Workplace Professionals into Communication Courses: Mini-Modules Online to Increase Student Motivation and Learning” at the 2013 Conference on College Composition and Communication: The Public Work of Composition. My co-presenters were Jonathan Balzotti, Iowa State University; and Dr. David Russell, Iowa State University. Although the conference was held in Las Vegas, NV, I was unable to attend because of prior commitments at work. As such, I presented at the conference virtually; fitting for a conference focusing on computers and communication.
Developing my presentation for this conference was a challenge, as I had to plan in advance several methods of delivery in case one mode failed. I created an 8 1/2 minute video displaying my portion of the presentation, embedded below. The video describes my role in the Professional Connection project and provides an overview of the development of the project. (Note that the Professional Connection was the creative component I developed for Iowa State University.)

In addition to the video, I developed a much longer document that goes into more detail. I developed this document for individuals interested in developing similar projects at their own institutions. It outlines the process, as well as challenges we faced and our plans for the future. That document is located here:

I was really happy with the result of the presentation. The technology used to deliver my portion worked seamlessly, and the Professional Connection was able to reach a much broader audience and make an impact on those attending. Upon completion of the video, I Skyped into the presentation to answer questions from the audience. Below is a screenshot of my interaction with the audience.
