Yesterday, students taking part in the LIVE Rescue SERVE Project with Maryville University visited the Humane Society of Missouri. HSMO worked to set up a presentation from a representative of the Animal Cruelty Task Force. Anne Vincent talked to us about her work, including puppy mill raids, natural disaster response, abuse and neglect cases, dog fighting investigations, and several other cases. It was a fascinating presentation, and we learned a lot about what the Task Force does both locally and nationally.
After the presentation, we were given a tour of the facility, which includes adoption wards, a veterinarian office, a grooming service, a surrender facility, and a gift shop. HSMO is a huge operation, which requires volunteers and staff alike to keep the organization moving forward. The students learned about several opportunities for them to volunteer, such as walking dogs and feeding rescue animals, as well as an appreciation for the Task Force and the work they do saving lives.
