On Sunday, February 15, Partners for Animal Welfare helped Bi-State Pet Food Pantry with their monthly distribution. Bi-State’s mission is to keep pets and pet parents together, even in tough financial times, by providing food and other essentials to pet owners.
Each month, Bi-State distributes food to over 100 families in need. This month in particular, we distributed food to 151 families! A lot goes into these ‘distribution days.’ Beforehand, they need volunteers to mix food, and more volunteers to bag food (dog food into 10# bags and cat food into 6# bags). Each ‘distribution day’ requires about 30 volunteers. Volunteer tasks include retrieving cat food, dog food, kitty litter, toys, supplemental food, and other items for orders. There is an intake table where families submit their orders, and volunteers who wheel their orders out in a wheelbarrow. It really is a huge production, and we were so happy to take part in it!
We learned a lot from this experience and can’t thank Bi-State enough for allowing us to take part. Hopefully we can participate in another distribution day in the future. Thank you for all you do, Bi-State Pet Food Pantry!
